The IPL 2025 mega auction is expected to be held in Riyadh, the likely dates will be…

The mega auction for the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is expected to be held in Riyadh later this month, sources said. All ten franchises have announced the list of remaining players for IPL 2025, which turned out to be full of surprises and expected decisions. With all teams retaining players they believe will contribute to their success in the upcoming cash-rich league season, all eyes are now on the mega auction.

According to sources, the IPL auction will be held in Riyadh and the dates are likely to be November 24-25.

Last week, the lists of all ten teams for next year’s Indian Premier League (IPL) season were finally released. They included several influential players including Jos Buttler, Aiden Markram, Glenn Maxwell, Faf Du Plessis, K.L. Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Shreyas. Iyer and many others were allowed to participate in the auction of their respective franchises.

The teams retained a total of 46 players by investing a total of Rs 558.5 crore. Of the 46 players retained across all franchises, 36 players are Indian. Of these, 10 players are Indian stars without titles.

With the release of IPL-winning captain Shreyas Iyer from Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Rishabh Pant from Delhi Capitals (DC) and K.L. Rahul of Lucknow Super Giants, three top-notch Indian captains will become available for those looking for a new captain. the skipper is on their side.

It is noteworthy that this time the franchises did not retain a single England player. Various star players such as Jos Buttler, Liam Livingstone, Jonny Bairstow, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Harry Brooke, Phil Salt and Will Jacks were dropped.

These players missed part of the season due to international commitments, while Harry Brook withdrew for personal reasons. England batter Jason Roy has pulled out of the IPL ahead of this season due to personal reasons. These developments at times upset the team balance, as some teams depended on their foreign talent.

Five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) have put their faith in the Indian core consisting of captain Hardik Pandya, former skipper Rohit Sharma, pacer Jasprit Bumrah, 360-degree opener Suryakumar Yadav and young left-hander Tilak Varma.

It was expected that young Ishan Kishan would be able to retain his place given his youth and experience with the franchise, but things did not work out as many might have thought. This retention strategy allows the MI to maintain a strong Indian contingent, leaving them with Rs 45 crore to further strengthen their squad in the auction.

In contrast, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) took a more selective approach, retaining only three players. Virat Kohli gets the highest retention fee at Rs 21 crore, along with Rajat Patidar and Yash Dayal. This strategy leaves RCB with the second highest amount at Rs 83 crore.

Punjab Kings surprised many by deciding not to keep any cap players. Their remaining two, Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh, indicate a shift towards nurturing young talent. The largest purse remained at Rs 110.5 crore.

Rajasthan Royals have strengthened their batting order to a large extent by retaining a strong batting line-up but looking for an additional opener. Entered the auction with the smallest purse of Rs 41 crore.

As part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), M.S. Dhoni is set to take part again in the upcoming IPL season after the five-time champions kept him as an uncapped player.

CSK’s strategy is likely to focus on combining experienced players with fresh talent, maintaining the balance that has contributed to their past successes. Apart from Dhoni, the remaining players include Ruturaj Gaikwad, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja and Mathisha Pathirana.
