Ipswich news: Mick Mills on replacing Cavlin Phillips

Former Ipswich defender Mick Mills spoke to BBC Radio Suffolk about the decision over Kalvin Phillips’ red card against Leicester City on Saturday: “Cameron Burgess almost fell out of the pecking order, but he came in and he’s really impeccable and he’s playing really well.

“I thought Conor Chaplin got his chance last week at Brentford and he took it. He did the same thing (against Leicester) and was probably one of our best players.

“If you look at the central midfield pairing, we had to play without Sam Morsy last week. Cajuste came in probably sooner than we expected him to (after injury) and I thought that not only has he played his game well, he has improved Calvin Phillips, it seems like this partnership is going better than the Morsey-Phillips partnership this season .

“For me the Morsy-Phillips partnership has not been successful, that section of the game has lagged behind the others and that is a really important area.

“Now suddenly Phillips is out of the next game due to suspension and you think maybe Morcy-Cajuste will be OK.

“We’ve got a few changes and we’re a little less worried now because we’ve seen a lot of them come in and play to a standard, so maybe we’ll have a decent pair.”
