Police investigating car theft in Winnipeg

Winnipeg police are investigating after a man was carjacked early Sunday morning.

Police said they were called to the incident at the intersection of Sherbrooke Street and Ross Avenue just after 2 a.m.

Arriving officers found a 39-year-old man suffering from bear spray.

Police say the investigation revealed the man was waiting for a friend near the intersection when his driver’s door suddenly opened.

He was sprayed with bear spray and pulled from the car along with his dog.

The suspect drove off in his vehicle, hitting the victim, police said.

He was treated at the scene by emergency personnel and given a medical exemption.

The stolen vehicle was found unoccupied by police in the 400 block of Edmonton Street.

The victim was unable to provide a description of any suspects due to the sudden nature of the attack. However, police say a witness who saw the car stolen described the suspect as a five-foot-eight-inch man.

The Major Crimes Unit is investigating and working to update suspect descriptions.

No arrests were made.

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to call police or Crime Stoppers.
