“It’s frustrating”; Drivers react to traffic jams caused by 31st Street Bridge inspections.

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) – Cars lined up for miles waiting to cross the Ohio River on Monday.

Effective Monday, one lane of the East Huntington Bridge (31st Street Bridge), connecting Huntington, West Virginia, to Proctorville, Ohio, is closed for an expedited bridge inspection project.

Contractors will be checking the suspension cables on the bridge.

The two-lane bridge has temporary traffic lights that alternate traffic flows in each direction.

Some drivers have expressed frustration with how the process is being handled.

“Ever since I sit here and look, it seems like no one has been there for a long time. I think they just need to do a better job of regulating traffic in the evening and morning to get people into Huntington who need to go to work,” Sandy King said.

WSAZ asked the West Virginia Department of Highways (DOH) if changing the timing between stop signs would be considered and if there was a more efficient way to regulate traffic.
