TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – A Tallahassee man was found guilty of attempted first- and second-degree murder Friday. shooting at a convenience store on Lake Bradford Road in 2023, According to prosecutor’s court documents.

Jonathan Vance is eligible for 25 years to life in prison, court documents say.

On the day of the shooting, Vance and the man known as “Peanut” got into a verbal altercation at a Trapican Way gas station when Vance’s court documents say he “attempted to brandish a gun but accidentally dropped it on the ground.”

Peanut took the gun and refused to give it back to Vance, according to the documents. Vance then got into the car to drive his mother home, where he picked up an AR-style pistol and drove back to the store to confront Peanut about stealing his gun, documents state.

According to state’s attorney documents, Vance “parked at the convenience store and began walking to approach Peanut.”

He peeked around the corner of the store to ambush Peanut in the alley, and despite there being several other people in the alley, Vance opened fire. As Peanut fled, the woman was wounded and paralyzed by one of six bullets fired by Vance, court documents said.

“I can’t believe she will walk again,” the documents state.

Vance said his actions were in self-defense. The jury rejected that claim and found him guilty after deliberating for about 30 minutes, court documents said.
