Amorim will ‘clean up’ Manchester United by selling four people he ‘has no interest in’ as Sporting star is ‘priority’

Ruben Amorim is reportedly “intent on clearing out” Manchester United quickly and made four players available for transfer in January.

Manchester United confirmed the appointment of Sporting coach Amorim as its new head coach after the decision to sack Eric ten Hag.

Amorim will not take charge at Old Trafford until November 11 due to a notice period in his contract and he is currently preparing his side to face Manchester City in the Champions League.

At the very least, it will give the 39-year-old the opportunity to establish his authority and convey his ideas to the club.

His first match in charge will take place on November 24 against Ipswich Town at Portman Road.

Manchester United spent around £180m in the summer transfer window and the Premier League’s spending rules are certain to limit this in January, but many Sporting players have been linked with a move alongside Amorim.

It is not surprising that Victor Giokeres – who has 45 goals this year – linked because the manager brings former players with him to Old Trafford it worked very well before.

Another player Amorim is reportedly keen on moving from Sporting to Manchester United is centre-back Goncalo Inacio.

Amorim will sell the unnecessary quartet to Manchester United and sign the Sporting defender

According to Sky Sport journalist Sasha TavolieriInacio is a “summer priority” for Manchester United and Amorim “could bring a few more players he knows from Sporting to Old Trafford.”

The Red Devils were eyeing the young central defender Ousmane Diomande last summer, and it is claimed that he “could also have made his way to England”.

To buy, Manchester United must sell. A report published last week stated Amorim wants to sell four players who “do not interest him”and this report mentions the same quartet.

Indeed, “as a direct consequence” of Amorim’s intentions to “quickly cleanse” the club by recruiting new players and creating a new identity on and off the pitch, Anthony, Casemiro, Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof were “put on the transfer market”.

Portugal’s head coach wants to sell all four to “free up a large wage bill” and send his players to Sporting, starting with Inacio.

The report adds that Amorim intends to “play the exact opposite of Erik ten Hag’s football”, which is a pretty good starting point.

Inacio would undoubtedly improve Manchester United’s defence, but Amorim has many options in this position, although keeping them all fit for Ten Hagu has proven very difficult.

Ten Hag has used several centre-back combinations in his last 12 months at the club and it would not be foolish to say that 36-year-old Jonny Evans has been his most consistent player when called upon.

The Dutchman signed quite a few of the players he managed at Ajax, but it proved to be an unconvincing transfer strategy.

Manchester United management will likely be reluctant to give Amorim the freedom to raid Sporting, but this is Manchester United we’re talking about and they’ll probably do just that.
