Two Liverpool could miss meeting Real Madrid in the Champions League

Two key Liverpool players could miss the Champions League clash with Real Madrid if they receive a yellow card against Bayer Leverkusen.

The Reds welcome Xabi Alonso’s side to Anfield on Tuesday night as they look to continue their winning run in the competition.

Arne Slot’s men have already beaten Milan, Bologna and RB Leipzig to sit second in the updated Champions League table with nine points, the same as leaders Aston Villa.

Liverpool will be without four first-team players for this match, but the Dutchman will rely on Alexis Mac Allister and Ibrahima Konate.

Both players received two yellow cards in the tournament, meaning they are one step away from being suspended for the next match.

According to UEFA rules, players will be disqualified after three yellow cards that do not result in a red card, as well as any subsequent odd-numbered warnings.

Slot, meanwhile, has not confirmed whether Konate will start against Leverkusen after the France international recovered from a painful wrist injury at the weekend.

“Yes, it is available to play” Head coach Slote spoke to the media about the defenseman during his press conference Monday afternoon.

“And I think he’s also fully recovered, so there’s no problem for him not playing because of what he had.

“Then it’s up to me whether he plays or not. But he is in good condition.”

However, Mac Allister is expected to start after being replaced by Curtis Jones midway through the second half against Brighton.
