Liverpool – Bayer Leverkusen: confirmed lineups

Liverpool will take part in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday as Anfield welcome Xabi Alonso to Bayer Leverkusen’s bench, with details of confirmed teams to appear here when they are announced.

The Reds have made a strong start to the revamped competition with three wins over AC Milan, Bologna and RB Leipzig and currently sit second in the 36-team standings.

The German champions have made a positive start under Alonso and are unbeaten on seven points after wins over AC Milan and Feyenoord and a draw with French side Brest.

Arne Slot will be relieved to see Ibrahima Konate on the training pitch yesterday after he left the field in pain and was forced into a half-time substitution in the 2-1 win over Brighton at the weekend.

However, the France international confirmed on Sunday that his injured hand had not suffered serious damage after colliding with teammate Virgil van Dijk during a corner and that he would be ready for today’s match.

Liverpool were without any further injuries at the weekend, but Alisson Becker, Harvey Elliott, Diogo Jota and Federico Chiesa are still missing and will not return until after the international break.

On Friday, Alonso suffered a blow when Nordi Mukiele injured his thigh during Leverkusen’s 0-0 draw with Stuttgart, forcing him to sit out. He joins Zhanuel Belochyan on the injured list after the 19-year-old underwent surgery on an ankle problem.

Martin Terrier could, however, return to the Bundesliga squad after missing the draw with Stuttgart by knockout, but there is hope that the striker will be able to return against Alonso’s old team at Anfield.
