Liverpool 4-0 Bayer Leverkusen: Curtis Jones’ assist ‘was a dream’

BBC Radio Merseyside reporter Ian Kennedy reacts to the Champions League win over Bayer Leverkusen: “At one point we thought a draw wouldn’t be the worst result in the world in terms of the competition format, but they really came out strong in the second half.

Leverkusen were well organized and they went dangerously forward but we didn’t see much of it except for a short period when the game was 3-0 and Kelleher had to make a couple of saves.

Liverpool really impressed in the second half. Luis Diaz scored a hat-trick, I thought Curtis Jones played very well and also Ryan Gravenberch in midfield.

“Slott didn’t have to make any changes at half-time, he kept the same team and whatever he said obviously had the desired effect.

“The first goal was absolutely brilliant and it was so important in the context of how tight the game was. Curtis Jones’ passing pass was a dream, and the finish, a small tap from Diaz, was something to behold.

“After the second goal there was no turning back for Leverkusen, Gakpo headed in and after that it was a bit of a showpiece.”
