Ohio set a new record for early in-person voting. Secretary of State Frank LaRose announced Tuesday afternoon, surpassing the previous record set during the pandemic in 2020.

“Our data team has been busy reviewing the early voting data that is still coming in from counties, and I am pleased to confirm today that Ohio has set a new state record for in-person early voting,” LaRose. announced X.

1,538,084 people voted early in person. according to state summary from the Ohio Secretary of State’s Office. Another 1,026,994 people mailed in absentee ballots, which didn’t break the previous record but still brought the total number of early voters to 2,565,078.

“Voting by mail records will always be difficult to break due to the 2020 pandemic, but Ohio voters are showing growing confidence in voting early,” LaRose said in a tweet.

Breaking down the numbers, 711,509 Republicans voted early, compared to 450,363 Democrats. Another 1,403,199 unaffiliated voters also cast ballots.
