Republican Andy Hopper Leads in Texas’ 64th Congressional District

Republican Andy Hopper leads early results in Texas’ 64th Congressional District, ahead of Democrat Angela Brewer.

Unofficial state results as of 8 p.m. show nearly 64% of early voters, or 50,507 people, cast ballots for Hopper.

District 64 covers all of Wise County and part of Denton County, including most of the city of Denton.

Brewer led by a slim margin of a couple hundred votes among Denton County early voters.

However, in Wise County, about 86% of early voters chose Hopper.

Hopper, co-founder of the Wise County Conservatives, defeated incumbent Lynn Stuckey for the Republican nomination by 3.4 percentage points in a runoff election in May.

Meanwhile, Brewer ran unopposed in the Democratic primary in her second bid for the District 64 seat.

As the chief warrant officer of the Texas State Guard, Hopper focused his campaign on securing the Texas-Mexico border and lowering property taxes for homeowners.

Brewer’s campaign emphasized protecting abortion rights in Texas and opposing private school vouchers.
