Harris won’t speak from Howard University as scheduled, calls it a night

Vice President Kamala Harris will not address supporters from her alma mater in Washington, D.C. tonight as previously planned.

Harris campaign co-chair Cedric Richmond spoke briefly to the crowd at Howard University early Wednesday morning, telling them Harris would address voters at the university on Wednesday. When exactly this will happen is not specified.

Despite the grim outlook for Democrats at that point in the night, Richmond told the crowd at Howard. “Votes still needed to be counted.”

“We still have states that haven’t been named yet,” Richmond added. “We will continue to fight all night to make sure every vote is counted, to make sure every voice has a voice.”

Before Richmond spoke and told the crowd that Harris would not speak as originally planned, videos began circulating online showing the Howard crowd leaving the room as the momentum of the race appeared to shift in the Republicans’ favor.

Richmond’s announcement that Harris would call early came about an hour before the race for President-elect Donald Trump was called. Republicans also regained control of the Senate early Tuesday, and there is still a chance the GOP will win a supermajority with enough electoral victories. House of Representatives.
