Date, time, how to watch

A double header world title fight featuring two of boxing’s brightest young fighters will take place on Saturday night.

Jaron “Botts” Ennis will defend his IBF welterweight title in a mandatory rematch against Karen Chukhadjian in the main event, and in the co-main event Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez defended his WBC junior bantamweight title for the first time against Pedro Guevara.

Ennis previously faced Chuhadjian in 2023, winning by unanimous decision with all three judges scoring the fight a shutout. Since then Chukhadjian has made his way into IBF welterweight ranking leader and Ennis, oddly enough, was tasked with giving him a rematch to avoid being stripped of the title.

“It’s time to have some fun, continue to crush everyone in front of me, put on a beautiful, dominant, crushing performance in front of my family, friends and fans, while spectacularly defending and retaining my IBF world title,” Ennis told Matchroom .

Where is Jaron Ennis vs. Chuhajian, “Bam” Rodriguez vs. Guevara?

The double header of Jaron Ennis and Jesse Rodriguez occurred in Ennis’ hometown of Philadelphia at the Wells Fargo Centerhome of the 76ers and Flyers. This will be Ennis’ second straight fight at the Wells Fargo Center.

Rodriguez’s opponent is Pedro Guevara. 42-4-1, 22 wins by knockout..

Guevara is a former world champion and veteran of the smaller weight classes who turned pro in 2008. Guevara last fought in May, beating former world title challenger Andrew Maloney by split decision to win the interim WBC title.

Rodriguez began his career competing at junior flyweight (108 lb limit) before moving up to junior bantamweight (115 lb limit) in 2022. In 2023, he moved up to flyweight (limit 112 pounds) for two fights. before returning to junior bantamweight earlier this year.

Rodriguez also has the highest percentage of power punches in boxing at 49.1%, and his 23.4 landers per round is seventh-best in the sport.

How did Jaron “Boots” Ennis get his nickname?

Like his Saturday tournament partner Jesse “Bam” Rodriguez, Jaron “Boots” Ennis is almost as well known by his nickname as he is by his real name.

But how did the nickname “Boots” come about? In an interview with Fanside in 2020, Ennis discussed the origins of his nickname.

“My original nickname was supposed to be ‘Boops.’ Ennis told Fansided. “I got it from my mom. When I was little, when I started going to the gym, my father would call me by name, and everyone thought that my father said “boots,” like shoes. So we just kept it and stuck with it.”
