JACKSON COUNTY, MI – Officials won each of the four contested races for seats on the Jackson County Board of Commissioners on the Nov. 5 ballot.

Each winning candidate will now represent their district for a four-year term.

District 3

Republican Corey Kennedy will continue to represent Jackson County District 3 after winning the race against challenger Daniel Pratt. Kennedy received 6,146 votes to Pratt’s 3,232.

Kennedy serves on several Jackson County government committees and previously served as a trustee of the Leoni Township Board of Supervisors. District 3 includes all of Napoleon Township and most of Leonie Township.

District 6

Republican Earl Poleski defeated Democrat Jennifer Shirk by 6,433 to Shirk by 2,577.

Incumbent Poleski has represented Jackson County’s 6th District, which covers Concord, Hanover, Pulaski and Spring Arbor, as well as the villages of Concord and Hanover, since 2020.

First elected to a one-term council term in 2006, Poleski served as county commissioner for a total of eight years.

District 7

Democrat John Willis will continue to represent District 7 and eastern Jackson for at least four more years after defeating challenger Caleb Blondke. He received 3,475 votes to Blondke’s 2,752.

Willis has served as District 7 Representative since his election in 2022. He also serves as Jackson’s chief equity officer and director of diversity, equity and inclusion in addition to his duties as a county commissioner.

District 8

In the night’s closest race, incumbent Darius Williams defeated challenger John Wilson with 3,757 votes to Wilson’s 3,180.

Williams, a Democrat, was first elected to the board in the November 2018 general election and is also vice chairman of the county’s Public Safety and Transportation Committee and the Human Services Committee. He will represent District 8, located in Jackson, for four more years.
