RICHMOND, Va. – November is National Adoption Month and CBS 6 is once again partnering with JFS connecting hearts And Virginia’s children belong to help find every child in the Virginia foster care system a loving family.

Meet 16-year-old Lily, who loves to cook.

“Baking is amazing. My favorite thing would probably be… a mixture of cheesecake and something else,” she said. “I love mixing things up and experimenting with new things.”

The resilient and dedicated teenager has a pretty simple birthday wish.

“Birthday cake. That’s all I ask. A birthday cake and maybe a gift or two,” she said. “I don’t need a big party. I just want to be with my family on my birthday.”

She plans to go to college and become a veterinarian to save animals. But she needs help to achieve her goals.

“I really, really want to be in a family and I just want to be supported in the future,” she said. “It’s just an amazing feeling to know that someone is there for you when you need them and you can call them family because they’re your family.”

The “I Belong Project” video is a project of Virginia’s Kids Belong in collaboration with America’s Kids Belong.
