Republican could take Slotkin’s key Michigan Open House seat

Former Rep. Elissa Slotkin, D-Mich., gave up her House seat to seek Michigan’s open seat in the U.S. Senate.

Hertel was doing his first race at US House after resigning from the state Senate in 2022 due to term limits.

Michigan Republicans continue to clash with Democrats over a deal with a Chinese electrical company in the race for a key house.

Hertel spent much of the race ahead of Barrett in spending, according to an October Detroit News report, which at the time noted Hertel raised $4.2 million to Barrett’s $2.8 million.

The report noted that Hertel also received millions of dollars spent on advertising by third-party groups, including television, digital media and direct mail advertising.

The race was considered one of the most competitive in the country ahead of Election Day.
