Kilkenny water systems are getting huge funding!

Several water supply systems throughout the territory County Kilkenny will receive a welcome boost thanks to a financial investment of €898,363 in security and supply improvements confirmed on Wednesday afternoon.

The funding was announced by the Minister for Housing, Local Government and Heritage. Darragh O’Brienand is part of the approval of funding for more than 250 individual projects across the country as part of the new cycle of the Multi-Year Rural Water Program, which will run until 2026 and provide capital investment to improve water services in rural areas.

Welcoming the investment, local Fine Gael TD, John-Paul Phelan said the cash injection would solve supply and security problems in many parts of Kilkenny.

“This welcome and timely promotion for these communities. We all depend on a safe and affordable water supply for homes, businesses and our communities. This is very good news for the part Kilkenny who have been struggling with supply issues for many years,” he said.

“Earlier this year, local authorities were encouraged to work with group water systems and their representative body, the National Federation of Group Water Systems, to apply for funding for individual capital projects,” Mr Phelan added.

“Following the completion of an assessment process, which included a critical assessment of applications received by an independent panel of experts, the Minister has approved funding of approximately €47.1 million for 256 individual capital projects across the country. I’m glad to see several priority projects. This includes the Kilkenny schemes,” concluded the local TD.

Announcing the investment as part of a new multi-year rural water program, Minister O’Brien commented: “I am fully aware of the need to protect our water supplies and ensure the highest standards of water treatment. I also want to ensure that our rural communities have the benefit of high quality water infrastructure and services. I have no doubt that the investment I announced today will help improve these water services, which will continue to support and encourage people to live and work in rural Ireland.”
