Students suffer due to shortage of KSRTC buses

Mangaluru: Students from Gundhya district traveling to schools or colleges on KSRTC local buses at Uppinangadi and Subrahmanyu faced a tough ordeal as buses to the area did not operate for two days in a row. As a result, many students began to travel to their institutions by private buses and alternative modes of transport.
KSRTC officials confirmed that the situation was improving on Wednesday. According to locals from Gundia, students largely depend on KSRTC buses to reach schools and colleges in Uppinangadi and Subrahmanya from Gundia. However, on Monday and Tuesday, buses did not operate in the area for two days in a row. As a result, some were able to travel to their campuses by private cars and buses. However, others, especially children in primary school, who could not cope, were forced to stay at home these days.
The KSRTC bus from Subrahmanya reaches Gundia around 7:40 am and reaches Uppinangadi at 9:15 am. Another bus arrives at Gundya at 8.15 am and proceeds to Subrahmanya and then to Madikeri. These buses are beneficial to students and the public. However, without prior notice, buses were stopped for two days, causing significant inconvenience. KSRTC express buses passing through this area are stopped.
Ammalingaiah B. Hosapujar, Divisional Controller, KSRTC, Puttur Division, said that it is true that buses to Gundia were not available for two days as most of the staff had gone on leave due to Deepavali. On the other hand, existing personnel have been deployed on Dharmasthala routes to decongest the festive rush. “I have spoken to officials about this and service is returning to normal as of Wednesday,” he said.
