Sundowns get their revenge on Polokwane and move closer to the Pirates at the PSL table

  • Mamelodi Sundowns kept the pressure on Orlando Pirates as they defeated Polokwane City at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday.
  • The Brazilians got some deserved revenge on Rise and Shine after losing the first match late last month.
  • Kutlwano Letlaku was named man of the match after scoring a brace to help the reigning Premier League champions seal all three points.

Mamelodi Sundowns got theirs rematch against Polokwane Citysecuring a 2-0 win over Rise and Shine at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday night.

Polokwane thrashed Sundowns 1-0 in the first leg last month but the Brazilians returned the favor in the second leg.

A goal in each half from youngster Kutlwano Letlaku gave the reigning champions a deserved victory over Polokwane City.

Sundowns take revenge against Polokwane City in PSL

Manqoba Mngqithi made several changes from Sundowns squad that defeated Kaizer Chiefs in knockout “Carling”. However, the quality of the squad was still enough to take all three points in the match against Polokwane City.

Letlhaku gave Sundowns the lead in the 27th minute after Arthur Sales scored. The teenager’s force with his left leg was too strong for Sapunga to contain.

Despite several chances created by both teams, the score remained 1-0 at half-time, with Sundowns leading the way.

The second half started slowly but Polokwane City had their best chance to score in the opening 10 minutes.

Chauke had a chance to level the scores in the 55th minute but failed to header past Ronwen Williams.

Letlaku came close to doubling Sundowns’ lead a minute later after Chauke’s miss, but his shot was saved by Polokwane goalkeeper Sapunga.
