Chris Matthews QUITS Dems Overseas after defeat

Chris Matthews criticized Democrats for their “terrible decision” on the southern border, citing the issue and the economy as reasons why the former president Donald Trump defeated the vice president Kamala Harris in the elections.

“Chris Matthews, this morning you are sitting in your home state of Pennsylvania. A state won by Donald Trump. Not as close as some predicted. Kamala Harris hasn’t done what she should have done, even in those Philadelphia suburbs that are critical to this election. How is your morning after assessing what happened?” Willie Geist Matthews asked Wednesday. Morning Joe.

Matthews noted that Trump’s support has grown in red states, but said it was Democrats’ approach to the southern border and migrant issues that alienated the party from voters.

“It’s all about immigration and the economy, but immigration has been a terrible decision for Democrats. I don’t know who they thought they were playing to when they allowed millions of people to cross the border at will. Because of their own decisions, they ran to this border and did nothing,” Matthews said. “And a lot of people are very unhappy about it.”

Working people, he added, feel “betrayed” and that Democrats are not prioritizing the border. Matthews said Democrats are now responsible for an “open border.”

“They feel like their country was given away and they don’t like it. And I don’t know who liked it. Latin Americans clearly didn’t like it. They want the law to be respected. And so I’m not sure they were playing at something smart here in terms of opening an open border. And that’s what it is – an open border,” he said. “And I think it’s a bad decision. I hope they learn a lesson from this.”

The rhetoric around the economy, Matthews said, was another mistake Democrats made. While the administration may be able to tout economic benefits, the simple fact that inflation continues to impact everyday purchases made by consumers overshadows any positive developments.

Democrats, Matthews said, “don’t know how people think anymore.”

“I think you can talk as much as you like about reducing inflation. What people do is remember what the price of something was, gas or something else, cream cheese or something else. They will say: I remember when it was 2 dollars, now it’s 7 dollars. But they remember this in the last five years. That’s how people think. Democrats don’t know how people think anymore,” he said. “They think about their country and the price of things.”
