No, Kamala Harris did not say she would not accept the results of the 2024 election.

With less than two weeks until Election Day, concerns are growing over whether candidates will accept the results. One viral report claims that Vice President Kamala Harris has said she will not accept the results of the 2024 presidential election and that she has lawyers who can overturn them.

“In case you missed it! Kamala Harris gave an interview to @NBCNews last night where she said she will not accept the election results and has a legal team ready to overturn them,” the newspaper said. Instagram post from October 23rd. said. The report comes a day after Harris’ interview with NBC News’ Holly Jackson in Washington, DC.

The Instagram post was flagged as part of Meta’s efforts to combat false news and misinformation on its news feed. (More about our partnership with Metawhich owns Facebook, Threads and Instagram.)

We have reviewed full transcript interview and found no evidence that Harris said or implied that she would not accept the results.

Harris, the Democratic presidential candidate, was asked about a scenario in which former President Donald Trump, the Republican presidential nominee, declares victory again on Election Night as votes are still being counted. Trump falsely claimed to have won the 2020 presidential election although the votes in many states were yet to be counted; four years later, he still hasn’t come to terms with defeat.

Harris told Jackson she is focused on the present and her campaign efforts.

“We have two weeks left and I’m very committed to the moment in terms of the task at hand,” she said.

As for what could happen on Election Night if Trump declares victory prematurely, Harris said, “We’ll deal with Election Night and the days that follow as they come, and we have the resources, the experience and the focus on that.”

When Jackson asked Harris if she had teams ready to resolve post-election disputes, Harris replied, “Of course.” But having a team of election lawyers is hardly evidence of a conspiracy to overturn the election.

Both sides have been involved in several disputes so far. Recent Bloomberg Law Analysis found more than 165 election-related lawsuits across the country involving Republicans and GOP-affiliated groups. responsible for 55% initiated cases.

We asked the Harris campaign how many lawyers it has and under what circumstances it would use them in post-election disputes. A campaign spokesman did not answer that question or say how many lawsuits the campaign has been involved in. A spokesman referred us to the NBC News transcript.

Harris did not say she would not accept the results of the 2024 election. During the campaign, she often highlighted Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election as part of her appeal to American voters.

We rate the claim that Harris said she will not accept the election results as false.
