Finally, Prescott’s concerns and quotes make a ton of sense, as additional information details the horrific injury the signal-caller suffered and why Jones doesn’t want to place him on IR.

In the words of Jane Slater, “Because #Cowboys As for Dak Prescott’s status, sources tell me the initial diagnosis is a partial hamstring tendon tear, which is partially torn from the bone. I was told that recovery usually takes over 4 weeks. In some cases, they allow it to scar, repair, and then strengthen. That being said, Prescott is seeking second opinions, so there is currently a reluctance to place him on IR or make any decisions regarding the timing of his return.”

Not only did Prescott suffer a hamstring injury, but he also suffered a partial hamstring tendon avulsion, which means the tendon is partially torn from the bone. This matches Prescott’s statement that he had never felt such pain.

While Jones said the team will “probably” put Prescott on IR, they are exploring different options. What’s worse is that it looks like Prescott will miss even more time than four games if he is placed on IR.

The Cowboys have already dealt with injuries to their star players throughout the season, having lost cornerback Sam Williams for the season. Star guard DaRon Bland also suffered a stress fracture and has not appeared in the regular season yet. DeMarcus Lawrence is also on IR with a foot injury and Misha Parsons is out with a high ankle sprain.

The good news is that Parsons looks set to return to the lineup this week. The bad news is that the Cowboys may be faced with the fact that Prescott will be out indefinitely.
