Charges filed against KC man who threatened to shoot law enforcement officers

KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) – Terrorist threat charges have been filed against a Kansas City man who called multiple agencies and threatened to shoot people who worked there.

Jackson County, Missouri District Court Records filed Tuesday, Nov. 5 show Kenon R. McClendon, 29, of Kansas City, was charged with multiple counts of making terroristic threats after making multiple calls to the Eastern Transit Bus Terminal.

Kansas City, Missouri Police Department reported that at approximately 5:40 p.m. on October 22, law enforcement officers were called to the bus station with a report that a caller was threatening to shoot Titan security officers.

Investigators noted that crosswalk noise helped them identify the caller at E 12th and Charlotte streets, where surveillance footage showed McClendon talking on the phone. Then, on Tuesday, November 5, he called again and threatened to shoot bus station security officers.

During the investigation, law enforcement officials said it was determined that he had done this in the past.

Court records showed that after he called the bus station, McClendon also called the Jackson County, Missouri Detention Center threatening to shoot in prison. Corrections officials said they received three more similar calls.

Around 7:50 a.m. Tuesday, law enforcement officials said McClendon was found about a block from the East Village Transit Center where he was arrested. During the interview, he admitted that he had been at the transit center and called and called the jail, but denied making any threats.

McClendon is charged with three counts of second-degree terroristic threatening. His first appearance is scheduled for 1:00 pm on Thursday, November 7th. As of Wednesday, McClendon remains behind bars on $50,000 bail. No additional information has been disclosed.
