PFTAW launches “Project Resistance 2025”

Hours after Donald Trump declared victory in the 2024 presidential race, People for the American Way announced its new Resist Project 2025 campaign on Wednesday, November 6th.

Svante Myrick, president of People for the American Way, warned: “Make no mistake, the election result is terrible, and we must not kid ourselves: Trump 47 will be worse than last time. He has made it clear that he intends to lead a regime of fascism and bigotry on steroids, empowered by the MAGA Supreme Court. This means that the resistance must begin now!”

According to a People for the American Way press release, Resistance 2025 is “a roadmap for immediate resistance to the new Trump administration and a strong pro-democracy movement for freedom and justice.” “The plan envisions the creation of a unique coalition of young progressive officials, religious leaders and artists who will play a prominent role in resistance and reform.”

Myrick added: “We will fight every attack on our freedoms from Trump and his willing sycophants with all the energy, passion, skills and resources we have, and we invite people to join us.”

“We will immediately work to confirm all of Biden’s remaining judicial nominees in the upcoming lame duck session to help strengthen our courts,” he continued. “We will immediately commit to standing up to the abuses and corruption we know we will see in the new Trump administration, but we will not stop there. We envision fundamental changes to our democracy that we will begin working on today so that in 20 years, we and our children and grandchildren will never again have to fear living under tyranny.”

Ultimately, according to the press release, Resistance 2025 “envisions an America in which all Americans have an equal right to vote in fair and secure elections—where Americans from every state, not just the ‘battleground states,’ get a vote that counts in determining who becomes president, where billionaires cannot buy elections and spread disinformation, and where threats and violence are unthinkable.

“He envisions an America where people will have control over their bodies. Where the courts deliver justice for everyone, not just the rich and powerful. Where no one lives in fear because of their skin color, faith, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, background or political opinion.”

Resistance 2025 is envisioned as a new platform to mobilize activists against Trump’s “efforts to oppress and marginalize communities and undermine our democracy.” It will provide opportunities for learning and interaction, as well as thought leadership and sustained activism for progressive values.

The Project’s work will initially be organized around challenging the Trump Administration’s abuses in three key areas:
• Confirm all Biden judicial nominees now.
• Screen every Vance/Trump judicial nominee for extremism and bigotry.
• Combating threats to our democracy\
• Fight against censorship.

Over the long term, Project Resistance 2025 will strive to implement a bold vision that includes key goals:
• Adoption of the Law on Freedom of Voting
• Passage of the John Lewis Voting Rights Act.
• D.C. Statehood
• Nominate and confirm impartial federal judges.
• Supreme Court Ethics Reform
• Term of office of the Supreme Court
• Establishment of popular vote in presidential elections.
• Expansion of the Supreme Court.
