Yosateki Naisau (with medal)

Although Josateki Naisau was not at the top of his class, he made a splash in the boxing ring.

While still in high school, the 17-year-old realized he might not be cut out for the classroom and decided to pursue a career in boxing.

Representing Fiji Police at the Vodafone Ratu Sukuna Bowl, Naisau made his tournament debut and won the Youth 72-75kg category, beating his Army opponent by split decision.

After entering the ring two years ago, Naisau fell in love with the sport.

“I decided to quit school because I knew I was a bad student, so I decided to take up boxing. So I hope to continue my career in this sport and help my family.”

For the guy Ra, one of the main motivators in the ring is his family.

Hoping to follow in the footsteps of local boxing greats such as Winston Hill, the youngster is adamant about making his mark in the ring.

Having his parents and other family members attend his victory at the LICI court in Suva this afternoon meant the world to Naisau.
