Mercedes insider reported Lewis Hamilton’s early decision to leave the team, but the team refuses to make an official statement

Lewis Hamilton will compete in the final three grands prix of the year despite rumors suggesting otherwise, according to a Mercedes insider.

The seven-time world champion sensationally hinted that he could have left Mercedes earlier after a “disastrous” weekend in Brazil.

Hamilton made cryptic comments to his team after finishing 10th in the race. action-packed race in Interlagos.

The 39-year-old expressed his gratitude to his engineers, suggesting this may be the “last time” he races for the Silver Arrows.

He said: “Guys, it was a weekend disaster. This is the worst the car has ever been.

“But thank you for continuing to try. The guys at the pit stop did a great job.

“If this is the last time I perform, it’s a shame it wasn’t great, but I thank you.”

Speaking after the race, Hamilton even suggested that he would “gladly” take the rest of the year off, despite having three rounds left.

But Sky Sports F1 reporter Craig Slater dismissed rumors of an early exit.

He said: “This is far-fetched and wrong. He’s going to finish the season with Mercedes.

“People put two and two together and say that maybe if Lewis wants to leave, it could give Antonelli an early start in his career. F1 to ground him for his first full season. This is wrong.

“It’s not entirely clear what exactly he meant by radio, but I contacted a senior official in Mercedes the team that told me this Lewis Hamilton will finish the season with the team.

“And it was pointed out to me that in some other interviews he was talking about what kind of car he hoped Mercedes would give him in these last three races.

“I know from very reliable sources that there is no way he will retire before the end of the season.

“I don’t think the team wants to dignify this kind of thing with an official statement.”

In fact, Hamilton’s message was most likely addressed to team members working in Sao Paulo who will not be in attendance for the final three rounds of the season.

Hamilton has just three races left. Mercedes before you join Ferrari – in Las Vegas, Qatar and Abu Dhabi.

Kimi Antonelli, 18, will join George Russell at Mercedes next year.
