The Chinese market remains an important growth engine for global meat exporters. According to a report by Boston Consulting Group, there is strong demand for imported premium meat from high-end restaurants and retailers in China.

“We have localized our grass-fed red meat offering to meet the needs of Chinese consumers,” said Patrick Lu, manager in charge of the Chinese market for Silver Fern Farms. “For example, we introduced beef slices and lamb roll, which are great for Chinese hotpot.”

Live salmon is presented at the Nordic Aqua stand.

Nordic Aqua, a Norwegian land-based Atlantic salmon farming company, made its debut at CIIE.

Under the slogan “Together for a greener future for aquaculture”, Nordic Aqua will be showcasing its advanced land-based farming technologies and locally sourced fresh Atlantic salmon at the event.

Using an advanced recirculating aquaculture system, Nordic Aqua has established China’s first commercial-scale land-based Atlantic salmon farm in Xiangshan County, Ningbo, neighboring Zhejiang Province.

At CIIE, Nordic Aqua is presenting its flagship product – Nordic Pure Atlantic salmon, locally farmed. Many visitors were fascinated by seeing live Atlantic salmon for the first time.

Raising Atlantic salmon from hatching to harvesting at Nordic Aqua’s farm in Xiangshan takes about two years. During this period, experienced agronomists closely monitor fish welfare indicators to ensure healthy growth of Atlantic salmon. The facility uses an aquaculture system to provide clean and sanitized water.

“Since its launch in April, Nordic Pure Atlantic has been very well received in the market. By the second quarter of this year, our production reached 523 tons,” said Andreas Thorud, managing director of Nordic Aqua’s subsidiary in China.

“There are significant opportunities for growth in China. China imported more than 80,000 tonnes of fresh Atlantic salmon last year and we believe this demand will continue to grow.”

A real dining experience at the Mato Grosso stand.

The state of Mato Grosso, known as the most important agricultural and livestock production region in Brazil, supplied its agricultural products to Chinese partners and CIIE trading companies.

It organizes various interactive presentations and food tastings to promote beef, legumes and other agricultural products.

“This time we are showing our meat, soybean and sesame products at the CIIE. China is a major trading partner of Mato Grosso in agricultural products and we provide preferential policies for Chinese agricultural companies,” said Cesar Miranda, State Secretariat for Economic Development of Mato Grosso.

“CIIE is the ultimate platform for trade as we have welcomed quite a few Chinese delegations since last year’s CIIE.”
