North Hykeham incinerator trucks banned from rural roads

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service, Tuesday’s executive council meeting was told there were currently 116 trips a week to the incinerator.

Councilor Ian Carrington said: “Trucks must follow clear routing plans. They will be asked to stick to A roads and avoid rural villages and roads except in exceptional circumstances such as roadworks and flooding.

“It is very important that we minimize harmful exposure,” he added.

The council leader welcomed the proposals and also responded to media reports that burning household rubbish to produce electricity is now the “dirtiest way” of generating electricity in the UK following the closure of the last coal-fired power station.

“It seems like a lazy assumption that burning is bad. It’s efficient and has minimal impact on the environment,” Hill said.

“We have to do something with our waste – we might as well turn it into electricity,” he added.

The facility reduces the county’s waste going to landfill by about 93% and produces enough electricity to power 27,000 homes, according to the council.
