Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson (4) returns to the sideline during the first half of an NFL football game at Huntington Bank Field on Sunday, October 20, 2024, in Cleveland, Ohio.

The Deshaun Watson era Cleveland Browns was a huge blemish on the franchise. He’s missed more games than he’s played, and it looks like his tenure will end.

CEO Andrew Berry addressed the media on Tuesday during the team a week so farrefusing to favor Watson as the quarterback of the future in Cleveland.

Instead, Berry shifted questions about Watson’s future to his recovery, saying that was their focus. The general manager continued to beat around the bush, saying the offense didn’t go well, refusing to reflect on the deal, its overall success, or much else.

But throughout the entire press conference, Berry never stated that Watason would be their quarterback of the future or that he would be their starting quarterback in 2025. This isn’t much of a vote of confidence in the quarterback.

Given the impact of the cap, the Browns will likely still have Watson on the roster. This seems like a case where they can just scratch him for the entire season, keep the third quarterback on the practice squad and operate on the 52-man roster until they can ultimately cut him in the spring of 2026.
