European active ETFs are doubling their AUM as passive assets gain popularity across the continent.

Speaking at Investment Week’s Funds to Watch 2024 event today (November 7), Kalay said assets under management for active ETFs in Europe reached €45 billion at the end of the third quarter, up from around €20 billion in 2022. Passive strategies generally remain a popular option among investors, she said, as active managers continue to grapple with persistent outflows from all sectors, including equities, fixed income and alternatives.
