“Just to see teenagers who love each other win and take it seriously,” Fishel explained. “When you’re a teenager, everyone tells you, ‘You don’t know what love is,’ and you just want someone to say, ‘Maybe you do.’ Maybe it’s real. Maybe you’re right and this is forever, but we’re wrong.” »

Still, in conversation with PEOPLE at a ’90s convention in early 2024, Fishel shared that she thought Cory and Topanga were too young to get married.

“Yes! Of course they were,” she said when asked. “Now it has worked for them and they should be given credit for it and there will always be success stories like this. There are stories of how it worked out, but I would say that in general, getting married right out of high school is not usually ideal.”
