McCracken County Sheriff Warns of Scam

MCCRACKEN COUNTY, Ky. (KFVS) – The McCracken County Sheriff’s Office is warning residents about a scam that is spreading throughout the area.

According to the sheriff’s office, they sent out several reports of individuals posing as local law enforcement officers, claiming that the victim had a warrant for their arrest for failure to perform jury duty.

The sheriff’s office says scammers often use computer or mobile apps that make the call appear to be coming from a real phone number for a local law enforcement agency.

The scammers will then ask the victim to make a payment to avoid seizure, either using prepaid credit cards or by depositing money into a cryptocurrency account.

Scammers often require the victim to remain on the phone with them during the conversation and advise the victim not to tell anyone what is being discussed.

The McCracken County Sheriff’s Office reminds the public that law enforcement will not contact individuals by telephone, nor will they solicit payment over the telephone.
