FORT BEND COUNTY, Texas (KTRK) – A mother is demanding change after her 11-year-old child was injured while waiting for a bus in Fort Bend County.

The bus stop is in a ditch with no sidewalks in Fresno, near Highways 6 and 521.

On October 23, the children were at the bus stop, ready to catch the bus.

“The truck was coming here, the car was coming this way,” Kelly Johnson described. “When the truck hit the car, the car overturned and landed in a ditch. At the same time, she knocked down a sign and hit my daughter.”

Johnson’s daughter Zaria spent three days in the hospital.

She still has multiple fractures and a cast on her arm.

“I don’t want another parent to go through what my family is going through because it’s really hard,” Johnson said. “What if my daughter died? What is needed for this? Does someone have to die? I want all children to be safe.”

Johnson said she didn’t receive answers, so ABC13 called the county on her behalf.

District officials now say they will change the bus route by next week to ensure student safety.

Eyewitness News is still waiting for details on these changes.

“I want the city to do something. I want the district to do something,” Johnson said. “We are here to protect our children and if this is how far I will have to go to make my voice heard.”
