Rashida Jones speaks out following death of Quincy Jones’ father

Rashida Jones pays tribute to an icon, a cultural figure, a genius, and most importantly, her late father, Quincy Jones.

Quincy Jones, who has worked with many iconic singers such as Frank Sinatra and Michael Jackson, died in November. 3 at the age of 91.

Days after the legendary music producer’s death, the 48-year-old actor and Quincy Jones’ daughter wrote an emotional and heartfelt message about life with her father.

“My father was nocturnal his entire adult life. He continued the “jazz hours” starting in high school and never looked back,” the “Office” actor wrote alongside a throwback photo of her as a child with her father holding her close to his face. “When I was little, I would wake up in the middle of the night to look for him. No doubt he’ll be at home somewhere, composing (old school, with a pen and sheet music). He would never send me back to bed.”

Rashida Jones, one of The Seven Children of Quincy Joneswrote that her father “would smile and take me in his arms as he continued to work… there was no safer place in the world for me.”

“He was a giant. Icon. Cultural shift. Genius,” the “Parks and Recreation” star continued. “Every accurate description of my father, except his music (and ALL his work), was a channel of his love. He WAS love.”

She wrote that he made everyone he ever met feel loved and seen, to which she said, “That’s his legacy.”

Rashida Jones concluded by writing that she was “lucky enough to experience this love in close proximity.”

“I will miss his hugs and kisses, unconditional loyalty and advice. Dad, I am honored to be your daughter. Your love lives forever.”

Quincy Jones and Rashida Jones’ mother, Peggy Lipton, were married from 1974 to 1990. They also had a daughter together, Kidada Jones.

The pioneering musician was married three times and had seven children from five different women.

His family later confirmed the news of his death in a statement to NBC News, adding in part: “While this is an incredible loss for our family, we celebrate the great life he lived and know there will never be another like him. »

Back in July, when appearing on the TODAY program, Rashida Jones recalled growing up with her dad, saying she and her siblings “deeply appreciate” that they were “exposed to the best music, the best artists, the coolest family atmosphere.”

She also reflected on the recording of “We Are the World,” which Quincy Jones produced and conducted. Although “no one was allowed” into the room, she recalled a “before and after” and Michael Jackson perfecting his role.

“I remember my father being very tired,” she added. “They wrote the whole song in about one night. It’s so crazy, with the biggest people in the world.”

Rashida Jones had such a close connection with her father that she wrote and directed his 2018 documentary, Quincy. It won a Grammy Award for Best Musical Film.
