CBS host gets choked up while discussing how he’ll explain Trump’s win to his kids on Colbert

CBS News anchor John Dickerson was emotional as he wrestled President-elect Trumphistoric election victory Tuesday during his appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”

Dickerson, who was hired by CBS News as co-anchor of the CBS Evening News after Norah O’Donnell’s impending departureconfronted host Stephen Colbert, who recalled having to explain to his “confused” 14-year-old son how Trump won the 2016 election.

“How would you explain this to a 14-year-old today? How would you explain this election?” Colbert asked.

“Because I’m going to try not to think about my boys,” Dickerson said before choking.

After a short pause he came to his senses again.

“I think you could explain it this way: You obviously won’t go into all the complexity of things, but I think you would say that, you know, amazing things have been done because of the American political system,” Dickerson said . “People have been given freedoms that were denied them and great opportunities in this country that you can’t get anywhere else. And then terrible things happened in the American system, and you have to fight to make sure you do the good part and not the bad, and that requires everyone to do their part.”

“And when people decide to contribute to the system, they can get on one of two buses that will take them to a destination that they think makes sense,” he continued. “You get on a bus and there’s a whole group of people who just want to be seen and have opportunities in American life, and then on the bus there are other people on the same journey who were there absolutely just for themselves, to gain power to give yourself more wealth and more control over things. And it’s true no matter what bus you get on, but you, a 14-year-old kid, want to be associated with people who want to. use the political system to help themselves and others like them live a life of opportunity.”

“And you know what will happen if you succeed, the success of your endeavor will depend in part on the recognition that on that other bus that didn’t make it, there were other people on it, just like you, who want to feel seen and who are right. now I don’t feel seen because they lost and you have to think about them too,” Dickerson added.

CBS News did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

Most outdated media were shocked by Trump’s landslide victory over Vice President Kamala Harris, winning both the Electoral College and the popular vote.

Liberal late-night hosts also had a hard time accepting the election results, including Colbert.

“Hi, how are you doing? If you watch this show regularly, I don’t think you’re doing very well. Yes, me too.” Colbert began his show Wednesday night.

Further in his monologue liberal comedian disgraced the majority of Americans who supported Trump in the election.

“I wish, you wish, many of us wish this didn’t happen, but that’s not for us to decide. This is democracy. And in this democracy, the majority spoke up and they said they didn’t care. that’s what democracy is all about,” Colbert told his far-left audience.
