An elderly man in Hong Kong was hospitalized after being stung by a bee during a group hike on the Shing Mun Forest Trail.

The 75-year-old man, surnamed Au, was walking to Shing Mun Reservoir with four friends on Friday when a bee stung his ring finger as they reached Needle Hill.

His friends filed a police report at 2.36pm and he was taken conscious to Yang Chai Hospital in Tsuen Wan.

Au appeared to be in pain as he was removed from the ambulance, according to photographs in media reports.

In the event of a bee sting, the stinger should be removed as soon as possible and the stinger should be held firmly to avoid squeezing the venom sac, the Fire Department said.
