Tom Aspinall predicts a ‘younger, fresher’ Jon Jones will defeat Stipe Miocic at UFC 309

Interim UFC heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall has shared his thoughts on the upcoming heavyweight title fight between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic at UFC 309, and he will side with the current champion to retain his title at the former champion’s expense.

Speaking ahead of the November 16 event at Madison Square Garden, Aspinall said age would be a deciding factor in the match as Jones, 37 He will face 42-year-old Miocic for the heavyweight title in New York.

“I don’t know if it has any tactical implications. I just think he’s younger and fresher than Stipe,” Aspinall said. CasinoHawks.com.

“Stipe is about 43 years old and hasn’t fought in about four years. He got knocked out in his last fight and didn’t look good in it, and that was years ago.

“Surely Stipe – unless he’s some kind of natural physical freak – can’t start to get better physically in his forties after being knocked out several times and having fought a million fights? Who knows?

“Maybe he’s going to surprise us all, but from a logical point of view I don’t think it’s physically possible to improve when you’re in your early forties.”

Tom Aspinall doesn’t expect a late UFC 309 call-up

Aspinall is named the reserve fighter for the UFC 309 headliner, and he said that while he will be ready if asked, he doesn’t expect to be called upon to fight at Madison Square Garden.

“I think they’ll do whatever it takes to get out there, so I don’t have high hopes or anything like that,” he said.

“This may be the last fight for both of them before retiring. They’re going to make a lot of money, so I’m just doing my thing. If it happens, it happens. If not, then no.” . Either way, I’m happy.”

Being a reserve fighter means that he will move in the same circles as Jones and Miocic during fight week. And while he and Jones have exchanged words on social media in recent months, Aspinall said he will be respectful and give Jones the space he needs to make sure he is ready to perform on fight night.

John Jones

“I’ll leave it to John. He has a big battle ahead of him,” he said.

“I will wish him the best if I see him, but I respect his fight week. I’m leaning more towards John, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Stipe wins too.

“I would probably say it’s 60-40 in John’s favor. It would be a lot of fun if Stipe wins. But I’ll be there for fight week, preparation and everything. there for this event.”

Cyril Gein and Alexander Volkov

Tom Aspinall gives his prediction for Cyril Gane’s rematch against Alexander Volkov

Aspinall also shared his thoughts on the upcoming fight between heavyweight contenders Cyril Gane and Alexander Volkov, who will rematch at UFC 310 on December 7 in Las Vegas.

“I think it’s a 50-50 fight,” he suggested.

“I know they fought before and it was an absolute abomination. The first one was terrible!

“Since I fought Volkov, he has improved a lot. He changed his training situation and Gane remained idle. It seems like Gane fights once a year against opponents that suit him well.

Alexander Volkov

“It’s hard to say. Volkov was very active. I think he’s fought four or five times since we fought a couple of years ago, which is a lot for an elite heavyweight.

“Although I still think it will be a close fight because I think Gane is very good and smart, but I think it will be a lot closer than the last one and I wouldn’t be surprised if Volkov can handle it.”
