Costco recalls meat and fish products

Earlier this week, notification letters were sent to customers who purchased the affected products: Rana Chicken Truffle Carbonara, Grilled White Chicken with Tagliatelle and Portabello Mushroom Sauce, and Kirkland Signature Smoked Salmon. remembered chicken products were sold from September to October, and salmon from October 9 to 13.

Several other products also recalled include the Readywise 110 Serving Emergency Protein Bucket, Red’s Southwestern Grilled Chicken Mini Burritos and El Monterey Mexican Grilled Chicken and Cheese Taquitos. The company cautioned customers not to use the recalled products and to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.

The chicken and fish recall comes just days after hundreds of popular waffle products sold by various brands were recalled due to the risk of listeria contamination. TreeHouse Foods has announced a voluntary recall of nearly 700 waffle products from dozens of brands such as Kodiak and Good & Gather, according to a notice issued by FDA. While no illnesses have yet been reported from the affected products, the FDA warns that those “concerned about illness should contact their doctor.” Some of the symptoms of listeriosis or listeria poisoning include fever, muscle pain, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, cramps, diarrhea and other gastrointestinal symptoms.

Moreover, foodborne bacterial infection, which is most often caused by the bacterium Listeria monocytogenes, can be dangerous or life-threatening, especially for older adults, people with weak immune systems, and pregnant women. “Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, the frail or elderly, and others with weakened immune systems,” the agency warns.

“Healthy people may only suffer short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Listeria monocytogenes infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women,” the FDA adds.
