MILAN (AP) — Teenager Kenan Yildiz came off the bench to help Juventus save Inter Milan 4-4 in a highly entertaining Italian derby on Sunday.

Yildiz came on in the 61st minute with the score 4-2 and Inter looked to be heading for an important win before the 19-year-old’s late brace.

“I want to thank the team, the coach and my family: it was not easy, but I am very happy,” Yildiz said. “You always have to stay together and play as a team; in football, things can change quickly.”

Inter remained second, four points behind Serie A leader Napoli and one point ahead of Juventus.

“We need to show more determination, but as a coach I have to say that we deserved to score seven or eight goals against a team that has only conceded one so far,” Inter coach Simone Inzaghi said.

“People are down low and I’m the first to think so, but we played well despite the disappointment of not scoring the fifth goal to finish the match.”

The matches between Inter and Juventus, nicknamed the “Italian Derby”, are always important events on the Serie A calendar and both teams are considered to be the main contenders for the title, along with Napoli, this season.

Inter took the lead in the 15th minute when Piotr Zielinski converted a penalty straight down the middle after Danilo had fouled Marcus Thuram.

The Nerazzurri had conceded just two goals in their last four matches but conceded as many in six minutes as their defense slumbered.

First, Juan Cabal sent the ball delightfully over the top of the pitch and Weston McKennie threaded it to Dusan Vlahovic, who chipped the ball home from point-blank range.

Soon after, Francisco Conceicao dribbled the ball down the right flank and overtook Henrikh Mkhitaryan too easily before rolling to Tim Weah to fire a shot just in front of goal as Juventus led 2-1.

Mkhitaryan atoned for his mistake with a fine equalizer in the 35th minute, playing a one-two with Thuram and going past a Juventus defender before firing into the bottom left corner.

Two minutes later Inter turned the match around with another penalty after Pierre Kalulu crashed into the back of Denzel Dumfries. Juventus goalkeeper Michele Di Gregorio intercepted Zielinski’s shot but was unable to prevent the ball from hitting the bottom left corner.

Inter increased their lead eight minutes into the second half. Danilo tried to head the ball from the corner, but Dumfries shot into the far bottom corner.

The home side came close to extending their lead several times before Juventus came back into the game in the 71st. McKennie picked out Yildiz, who was out of sight in the large space on the left, and he raced downfield before firing into the bottom right corner.

And the Nerazzurri were left to rue missed chances as Yildiz doubled his tally eight minutes from time before Conceição’s powerful cross.

Genoa needs Balotelli

Genoa director Marco Ottolini said Mario Balotelli would sign on Monday “if there are no surprises” and the team is desperate for the former Inter and Manchester City striker.

Genoa had just two shots on target in a 3-0 defeat to Lazio and suffered their fifth defeat in six matches.

Parma came back to a 1-1 draw with Empoli and could have won the match later, but Ange-Yohan Bonny sent his penalty against the crossbar two minutes after Gabriel Charpentier had equalized.

Monza fought back twice to salvage a 2-2 draw with Venice.

Roma played Fiorentina later on Sunday.
