Firefighters rescue Ohio woman through basement window

MEDINA, Ohio (KMID/KPEJ) – Firefighters rescued a woman through a small basement window after a fire engulfed her home Wednesday.

Footage from the Medina County Sheriff’s Office shows crews approaching the burning home, breaking a basement window and, after some difficulty, managing to pull the woman through a confined space to safety.

Medina Fire Chief Larry Walters said firefighters used a multi-purpose prybar as a step to allow the woman to gain height in the basement where rescuers could grab her and pull her out.

The footage shows the rescued woman calling for a team to rescue her dog. Her family later said two dogs had died in the fire, according to local reports.

In addition, four sheriff’s office employees and two firefighters were treated for smoke inhalation and minor injuries, the Medina County Sheriff’s Office said.
