The crew is saved: the yacht ran aground on a sandbank

Three people have been rescued after their yacht ran aground on a notorious sandbar in Kent.

Volunteer crews from RNLI Walmer lifeboat station were called out at 06:57 GMT on Monday after the 11-metre vessel was involved in an accident on Goodwin Sands, about six miles east of their headquarters in Deal, Kent.

RNLI lifeboat Atlantic 85 arrived at the area, long dubbed the “great ship swallower”, 11 minutes after receiving the alarm.

After finding water in two-metre waves, the three on board the yacht were rescued and underwent medical examination before being transferred to Ramsgate Lifeboat Station.
