Ferrari F80 for 4 million dollars almost became a single-seater

Ferrari calls the F80 a “+1” and has the passenger seat positioned slightly further back than the driver.

In a recent interview with Top GearFerrari marketing chief Enrico Galliera missed that early designs for the LaFerrari successor initially called for a single-seater setup, a radical departure from tradition that would have turned heads even in the avant-garde world of hypercars. In the end, Ferrari opted for a two-seater configuration, but this is by no means a conventional two-seater.

“When we started the project, the original idea was that this car should be a single-seater,” Galliera said. “Why? Because we wanted it to have really extreme proportions: a very narrow cabin, the widest possible shoulders, a wide track, and so on. It is clear that this was a provocation, but together we managed to achieve the effect of a real single-seater car, while without giving up a passenger seat.”

Ferrari the designers ultimately decided to give the F80 two seats, but with a twist. The Italian company describes the new F80 as a “+1” and has created a cabin that clearly separates the driver from the passenger. While the driver gets a custom racing bucket seat that can be finished in a variety of colors, the passenger doesn’t even get an actual seat but sits in a padded section of the tub finished in the same muted color as the rest of the tub. cabin. This passenger “seat” is also located a little further back than the driver’s seat.

The driver and passenger are separated by a central spine and a console that is heavily angled toward the driver. This should make the F80 feel a bit like a single-seater, while still giving owners the option of bringing a passenger along with them.
