Ukraine attacked a Russian naval base in Dagestan, a source said

Ukraine was behind a drone attack on the town of Kaspiysk in the Russian republic of Dagestan, targeting a Russian naval base, a Ukrainian military intelligence source told the Kyiv Independent on November 6.

The source did not provide details about the possible consequences of the attack.

The authorities of Dagestan reported this. intercepting a drone attack on Kaspiysk, a port city on the Caspian Sea, about 1,000 kilometers from the front line (600 miles), on the morning of November 6.

This was also stated by the head of the Center for Combating Disinformation of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine, Andrey Kovalenko. Telegram that a Russian naval base was damaged in the attack.

“Russian Navy ships are stationed in Kaspiysk,” he said. The base is home to the Russian Caspian Flotilla.

While Russian authorities said they intercepted one drone in the sky, video posted on social media showed another drone striking its target, causing a large explosion.

The incident occurred about 15 kilometers from the local airport, the Mash news channel reported, identifying the drone as a Ukrainian A-22 Flying Fox drone.

The nearby Makhachkala airport has suspended operations indefinitely due to the incident, local authorities said.

The Kyiv Independent newspaper was unable to verify these claims.

The drone strike on Chechnya may have been carried out from Dagestan and Ingushetia, the source claims

One of the most likely theories to explain the incident links the attack to the fatal shooting at the Moscow office of Russian online store Wildberry in September and a conflict between Kadyrov and lawmakers from neighboring Caucasus republics, the source said.
