15-year-old boy rescued after falling from cliff in New Hampshire

A 15-year-old boy was rescued using a rope system after falling 30 feet from Rock Rimmon Mountain in Manchester, New Hampshire, on Sunday evening, officials said.

Shortly after 5 p.m., crews responded to a report that the boy had fallen approximately 30 feet, halfway to ground level, before “landing on a perch in the rock,” according to a statement from the Manchester Fire Department.

Rescuers set up a rope system to slowly lower the boy, who was conscious and breathing, to the ground in a basket, according to the statement. Leaves covering the ground combined with steep terrain made the climb “very dangerous,” officials said.

The rescue took about 20 minutes before the victim, whose name has not been released, was taken to Elliott Hospital in Manchester. No further information was immediately available.
