WALTON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) – The high school football season is about to begin and one area team is trying to raise funds to make it a success.

The South Walton Seahawks boys soccer team held a community carnival on Sunday at Distillery 98 in Santa Rosa Beach. People could buy tickets at the door and use them to participate in impromptu carnival games. Visitors could also enter a raffle to try to win one of the many baskets donated by local businesses.

The money collected goes toward travel expenses for the games.

The players say they had a great season last year and reached the final four! And this year they hope to go even further. But to do this, they really need the support of the community.

“The main thing is that last year a lot of people doubted us. I didn’t think we’d get far. So, I think how far we’ve come… you know, we have a lot to do this year,” said player Brody Hanson.

The boys said it was great to see the community show their support.

“It really shows a lot, the community shows a lot. Gives us a little boost, shows that the community supports us,” player Ronin Bucannon.

“It makes us feel good and gives us confidence that we’re going to have a really good season,” added player Brooks Lukow.
