A mum has shared her incredible weight loss journey after she was horrified to find she couldn’t take off her wedding ring. Jenny Hunter, from Wakefield, was so determined to avoid having her ring cut off that she took drastic measures to lose weight, managing to shed an impressive three stone.

The 48-year-old pharmacy worker realized the seriousness of her situation while on holiday with her husband Neil when her size 20 figure made her ring become painfully tight. Fearing that she would have to cut off her finger, Jenny accepted the challenge when she returned home.

The mum then slimmed down to a comfortable size 14 in just ten months. Jenny said: “The options were either cut it off or try to cut it off. I could not accept the fact that it would be cut off, because it would be tantamount to destroying the symbol of marriage.

“I sat with a friend and we put ice on my finger for a while and eventually took it off. My husband said we could make the ring bigger, but I said I wanted a smaller one.

“I panicked when it didn’t come off, it had to be taken off. Then I was very upset because I knew I wouldn’t be able to wear it again.”

The lifestyle overhaul didn’t happen overnight, said Jenny, who struggled with processed foods and takeout while juggling work and taking her five-year-old son to after-school activities. Her decision to embark on a journey to better health was also prompted by observing photographs in which she noticed gradual weight gain.

Jenny, who is also a stepmother to a 17-year-old boy, decided to swap her diet of fatty fried foods for healthier alternatives. With the guidance of her weight coach at a local Slimming World group, she mastered the art of pre-planning nutritious meals.

She said: “I knew the weight was coming on but I couldn’t see how big I was getting. I knew I was getting bigger, but since I saw myself every day, I didn’t notice.

“It wasn’t until I started looking at the pictures that I thought, ‘Oh my God, I look really big in that picture.’ But my friends and family said it was a bad angle and that I wasn’t that big.

“But then I saw another photo of myself and thought I really need to do something about this.” After a successful weight loss journey, Jenny now feels more confident and enjoys being photographed having gone from a size 20 to a size 14.

She added: “I feel a lot more confident and a lot happier when I have my photo taken. I didn’t take many photos before, but now I don’t feel awkward or try to hide.”

“Now when I look at photographs, I smile when I see myself instead of hating what I’m looking at. It’s confidence that when I go out I can actually think I look good now.”

“Now I will take the stairs to work instead of the elevator because my knees don’t hurt when I go up the stairs. I also feel happy when I swim, but I used to feel uncomfortable wearing a bathing suit.” “

Jenny praised the planning aspect of her new diet regimen, which radically improved her stamina. She said: “I feel a lot better, like I have more stamina, which is really great.”

Speaking about what her daily routine looked like before and after the change, she explained that being busy at work made meal planning more difficult and often meant choosing convenience foods.

“The most important thing for me was planning,” she admitted, “I’m a working mother and don’t finish work until late, and then I had to think about what to drink for tea while trying to deal with my son.”

The cycle resulted in a diet filled with processed foods, which she has now changed thanks to Slimming World. She said: “We ended up just eating convenience foods like breaded chicken and oven fries because I didn’t cook anything.”

But that’s a whole different story as she describes how her eating habits improved after changing her diet. Jenny added: “Now, thanks to the weight loss world, I plan my meals so I don’t come home trying to figure out what to eat.” She provided a contrasting look at her “DIET BEFORE” and “DIET NOW.”

The BEFORE DIET included two slices of toast for breakfast, a biscuit for an afternoon snack, a sandwich and a bag of chips for lunch, a bag of crisps or biscuits after work, and tea consisting of processed foods or a takeaway.

The “DIET NOW” includes porridge with fruit for breakfast, homemade lasagna according to the Slimming World recipe, or jacket potatoes for lunch, and for tea, a casserole in a slow cooker or a ready-made Slimming World meal, with the occasional snack of fruit or a bar allowed Hi-Fi Slimming World.
