Two sheep rescued from quicksand on British Harbor

October 28 (UPI) — A search and rescue team was called to a bay in England where two sheep were stuck in a large area of quicksand.

Bay Search and Rescue Squad said on social networks that crews responded to Morecambe Bay with the amphibious rescue vehicle The Sherp when a local hunter spotted a stranded sheep.

Rescuers soon determined that two sheep were stuck in the sand.

“Teams from Grange and Flookburgh began working on the animal that was initially reported, and Team Sherpa, on their way to work, came across another injured animal just beyond the Arnside viaduct and began working on it,” the post said.

The team determined that the animals had “obviously been stuck for several hours as the sand around them had hardened like concrete.”

However, the sand around the sheep was “too soft to safely walk on”, rescuers said.

They used inflatable walkways to reach the sheep, which were pulled from the sand as alarms sounded warning of the approaching tide.

Both animals were safely returned to their owner.
