Police report false alarm for alleged head shot victim near Westwood Village

A report of a suspected gunshot victim near Westwood Village Sunday night appears to have been a false alarm of sorts, authorities said.

According to the Redding Police Department (RPD), they received a call about a person suffering a gunshot wound to the head on Southgate Drive just after 6 p.m. They said the reporting party told the officer about an argument that allegedly occurred on Emerald Lane earlier in the night.

However, when police arrived, they said the victim was uncooperative with officers and refused to press charges or receive any medical treatment. While they said they weren’t able to inspect everything completely, they said the damage was minimal and not consistent with gunshot injury.

Police said the victim claimed the injury may have been caused by a fist or a bullet, but they would not confirm any other details.

RPD said the investigation into the matter is ongoing. But with few leads, they said it was unlikely to go anywhere.
