Dog finds new home after being rescued from Phoenix Canal

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — An older dog has found a new home months after being rescued from a Phoenix canal.

On the afternoon of June 16, a good Samaritan warned Arizona Humane Society about a dog lying on a flooded shopping cart in the middle of a canal. An AHS Animal Emergency Medical Technician (EAMT) arrived to assist, along with crews from the Phoenix Fire Department.

Having developed a plan, rescuers managed to bring her to safety. AHS says she was scared, dehydrated, hungry and covered in ticks.

She was then taken to an animal hospital and further examined, where veterinarians also discovered a pair of broken teeth that needed to be removed.

The 10-year-old Chihuahua, now named Dorothea, spent time at the spa while recovering at a shelter. Dorothea has since been adopted.

“While it is unknown how long or why she was there in the canal, Dorothea’s incredible story highlights the life-saving work the Arizona Humane Society can do as it cares for nearly 22,000 pets each year,” the press release said. AHS release. . “Thanks to the community’s support to save pets like her, Dorothea is now living her best life with her forever family in Youngtown, Arizona.”
