Results of the fall season of KWU men’s tennis

The Kansas Wesleyan men’s tennis team had several strong performances during a busy fall season.

During the fall season, student-athletes competed in 110 singles and 42 doubles matches.

BETHANY’S INVITATION – September 6-7.

The Coyotes opened the fall season by playing at the Bethany Fall Invitational.

In singles in draw A, Raul Davalos-Gavino lost to Sterling’s Kyosuke Ishida 8-4, but came back to win the next two matches, defeating Doane’s Diego Infante 8-5 and Tabora’s Ko Osuga in the consolation final 8-7. Jacob Phelps lost to Jose Purisaca of Doane 8–2.

Singles B Draw Paul Gittawaite beat Sterling’s Alex Gabordi after retiring, then lost to Bethany’s Martin Priban. Adam Hanson beat Doane’s Andre Hartmann 8-0 before losing to Stirling’s Johann Mollet after retiring.

In the singles draw, Paulo Cattani-Martini lost 8–1 to Elliot Dassel. Luke Craft topped Bethany’s Carlos Rodriguez, who retired, then lost to Sterling’s Adam King 8-2 before beating Dassel 8-2 in the third-place match.

Singles D Draw Gavin Chavez lost to Doane’s Julio Avila 8–4, then lost to teammate Jack Hanson 8-5 in the consolation final. Hanson lost to Bethany’s Daniel Lozano 8-5, then beat Tabor’s John Furley 8-4 and Chavez.

Singles E Draw Andrew Wise beat Bethany’s Amar’e Campbell 8-1, then lost to Sterling’s Abjudit Nagar 8-3. He then lost to Sterling’s Marko Djukic 8–3. Felix Rodriguez beat Collin Branham of Tabor 8-5, then beat Djukic of Sterling 8-5 to reach the final toss, where he lost to Nagar 8-6.

Singles F Draw Austin Harden beat Doane’s Theo Jones 8-4, then lost to Sterling’s David Garces 8-0 and then lost to Doane’s C.J. Jensen in the third-place match 8-2. Zachary Daly lost to Sterling’s Robin Baransi 8-1, then beat Bethany’s Gannon Mosher 8-0 and Doane’s Jones 8-0.

Doubles draw Luke Craft And Adam Hanson beat Gabordi and Ishida of Sterling 8-7, then beat Osuga and Jake Herzen 8-5, then won a draw by beating Louis Boisdenghien and Adam King of Sterling 8-5. Davalos-Gavino and Jacob Phelps lost to Boisdenghien and King 8–7, then lost to Osuga and Herzen 8–4.

In doubles B. Jack Hanson and Cattani-Martini lost to Stirling’s Johan Mollet and David Garces 8-4, then beat Doane’s Andrew Hartman and Elliot Dussel 8-6. Paul Gittwaite and Benamin Chechak beat Dassel and Hartman 8–5, then lost to Sterling’s Pedro Filippov and Rubem Bogomolets 8–3 before beating Molle and Garces 8–7.

In doubles C. Gavin Chavez And Jacob Marshall beat Daniel Lozano and Amare Campbell of Bethany 8-6, then lost to Nagar and Nicholas Sprenger of Sterling 8-7. Logan Newberry And Dylan Dodds lost to Sterling’s Robin Baransi and Marko Djukic 8-3, then lost to Tabor’s Furley and Branham 8-2, then beat Doane’s Theo Jones and C.J. Jensen 8-3.

KCAC FLIGHT CHAMPIONSHIPS – September 13-14.

In singles draw #1 Raul Davalos-Gavino lost to Bruno Suyama of Friends 8-2, then lost to Ko Osuga of Tabor 8-5.

In draw No. 2 in singles Gavin Chavez lost to Ottawa’s Oscar Giorgio 8–0, beat Avila’s Cage Bjornstad 8–1. Luke Craft then exited the draw at No. 5 and lost to Jake Goertzen of Tabor, 8-5.

In draw No. 3 in singles Adam Hanson beat Southwestern’s Jeremy Jones 8-4, then lost to McPherson’s Daniel Marcano 8-3.

In singles at number 4, Paul Gittawaite finished fourth with an 8–0 win over Avila’s Beau Bourget before beating Sterling’s Nicholas Sprenger 9–7. He lost to MacPherson’s Oscar Brouwer in the semifinals, 8-1, then lost to Ottawa’s Bernardo Figuered 8-5 in the third-place match.

Singles No. 5 Luke Craft lost to St. Mary’s Santiago Garcia 9-8, then moved up to second in the bracket to face Herzen.

In singles at number 6, Jack Hanson finished second. He opened with a 9-8 win over Friends’ Connor Fitzsimmons, then beat Ottawa’s Luis Figueiredo 8-3 and then beat MacPherson’s Balazs Temesvary 8-6. He lost in the finals to Bethel’s Moses Sawatzky 3-1, 6-3.

In doubles No. 1, Raul Davalos-Gavino And Jack Hanson beat Francisco Bravo and Zeke Mumford of Bethany 8-5, then lost to Peter Collar and Jorge Batista of Bethel in the semifinals 8-1. The duo then finished third for a qualifying victory.

Number 2 in doubles Adam Hanson And Luke Craft beat Bethany’s Martin Priban and Carlos Rodriguez 9-7, then lost to Bethel’s Bill Haoda and James Menard 8-5. The duo finished third with a 9-7 win over Stirling’s Alex Gaobordi and Abjudit Nagar. Besides, Zachary Daly And Felix Rodriguez played the match in brackets, losing to Southwestern’s Cale Groff and Cam Julian by a score of 8-2.

At No. 3 doubles, Jittawaite and Chavez beat Oklahoma Wesleyan’s Cash Harrison and Nathan Bartlett 8-0, then fell to Friends’ Auron Hoyer and Connor Fitzsimmons 8-0.

ITA CENTRAL WEST REGION CHAMPIONSHIP – September 20-22.

In the round of 64 Raul Davalos-Gavino lost to Marcos Menendez-Hervella 6–3, 5–7, 10–8 and Jacob Phelps lost to Mount Marty’s Yussef Boubaker 6-2, 6-1.

In the consolation bracket, Davalos-Gavino lost to Rodrigo Sanchez-Hurt of Bethel, 8-6.

In doubles, in the 1/8 finals, Luke Craft And Adam Hanson beat Evangel’s Vinicius Costa and Thiago Galoppo 8-6, then beat McPherson’s Arthur Nardi and Jason Wassefour 8-5 in the round of 16. In the quarter-finals they lost to Ben Starman and Joren Stevens at Midland 8–3. In the round of 16, Bethel’s James Menard and Billy Haoda defeated Ravalos-Gavino and Phelps, 9-8.

The rest of the ITA was washed out by the rain.

KANSAS WESLEYAN INVITATION – September 21

In the first round Benjamin Chechak lost to Ottawa’s Yuki Usuda 8–4, Felix Rodriguez beat John Fraley of Tabor 9-8, Zachary Daly lost to Ottawa’s Oliver Blanchet 8–5, Gavin Chavez beat Concordia’s Ethan Finney 8-2, Jacob Marshall beat Porter Lee of Baker 9-7, Dylan Dodds lost to Morningside’s Mihil Raja 8-0.

In the second round, Rodriguez lost to Marcos Moreno of Mount Marty, 9-8, while Chavez beat Aidan Vandergrift of Avila, 8-0.

In the third round, Chavez lost to Mount Marty’s Pablo Rivest 8-1 and Marshall lost to Abhishek Mohapatra 8-1.

In a consoling bracket, Dylan Dodds lost to Carlos Rodriguez of Bethany, 6-2, and Zachary Daly beat Sterling’s Ruben Bogomolets 6-2.

The rest of the tournament was skipped.

KCAC INVITATION – September 28

In a draw after opening with a win by default Felix Rodriguez lost to Bethel’s Moses Sawatsky 8-3. Benjamin Chechak lost to Bethany’s Daniel Lozano 8-5, then lost to Friends’ Nathan Harris 8-6. Gavin Chavez lost to Evangel’s Sava Kmekic 8–3, then bounced back with 8–5 wins over Friends’ Connor Fitzsimmons and 8–1 wins over Ottawa’s Oliver Blanchette before losing to Friends’ Nathan Harris 8–5 . Jack Hanson beat Bethel’s Jordan Twenter 8-3, then lost to St. Mary’s Will Orgizovich 8-5.

In Draw B, Zachary Daly lost to Saint Mary’s Noah Bayani 8-3, then beat Evangel’s Elijah Glissen 8-4, then beat teammate Andrew Wise 8-1. Wise lost to Friends’ Jacob Busch 8-2, then beat Bethel’s Elias Harder 8-6. Jacob Marshall beat Harder 9–7, then lost to Busch 8–5, then beat Bethel’s Amos Harder 8–5.

In Draw C, Austin Harden beat Evangel’s Kevin Sanders 8-2. Dylan Dodds picked up victories over Gannon Mosher of Bethany 8-2 and Demitri Serrano of St. Mary’s 8-3.

PRATT DOUBLES TOURNAMENT – October 4

Raul Davalos-Gavino And Paul Gittawaite defeated Sixto Kolobart and Simeon Latinchev of Pratt CC 8-4. They then lost to Newman’s Naoya Fukumoto and Andrea Torrini 9-8 and then fell to Emporia State’s Duvan Torres and Alexis Mattenberger 8-3. They then beat Newman’s Francisco Ubeda and Trevor Sweet 8-2.

Jack Hanson And Gavin Chavez lost to Peyton Ryan and Jaime Sigauk of Barton CC 9-7.

Zachary Daly And Jacob Marshall lost 8–2 to Ryan and Seagauk, then lost 9–7 to Friends’ Nathan Harris and Augusto Morrias.

Adam Hanson And Luke Craft lost to Emporia State’s Harrison Kossover and Gwendal Masuay 8-3, then lost to Missouri Valley’s Marco Bueso and Alvaro Ruiz 9-7. They then beat Newman’s Francisco Ubeda and Trevor Sweet 8-3 and picked up a routine win over Pratt’s Kolobart and Latinchev.

Benjamin Chechak And Felix Rodriguez lost to Friends’ Auron Heuer and Enric Galan 8-1, then beat Newman’s Jack Judkins and Noah Smith 8-5, then lost to Missouri Valley’s David Schalgeter and Andres Tasev 8-1.

Dylan Dodds And Austin Harden lost to Hoyer and Galan 8–1, then lost to Schalgeter and Tasev 8–0.

INDIVIDUAL TOURNAMENT KANSAS-WESLEYAN QUAD

KWU finished the fall season with an individual tournament against Bethany, Barton Community College and Sterling.
